FAQ’s to help ease your mind about a boudoir photoshoot.

Frequently asked questions you may have for your boudoir photographer. By Velvet Light Boudoir in Savannah, Georgia

Lighting, posing, camera angle, and clothing choice all come together to create beautiful boudoir photos

When thinking about boudoir photography everyone has similar questions. Some people don’t even know what to ask. Here are a few Q&A’s to help ease your mind.

What if I don’t know how to pose or be “sexy”?

One of the biggest concerns I hear as a boudoir photographer is “I don’t know how to pose or be sexy”. I’ve got you covered! At the beginning of each session, I walk everyone through the posing process and guide you throughout the entire shoot. While the poses may feel awkward during the shoot, they look amazing in photos!

What if I have cellulite, stretch marks, and I don’t look like a model?

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
-Hunter S. Thompson

When we were born, most of us were born with a fresh, unmarked body. A clean slate with no stories to tell. Through the act of living our lives, we collect little mementos from our experiences. These come in the form of scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, sun damage, and a little extra weight. All of these things tell a part of our story that we should embrace and revel in. However, because we’ve been constantly bombarded with “the ideal image of beauty”, we don’t see ourselves like that. Usually, when we see ourselves in the mirror or in a photo, we only see the things we don’t like. I’m no exception, but I have realized it is the imperfections in the people I love that make the most endearing to me. This is what I love about shooting boudoir.

Everyone has things they are self-conscious about and whether you choose to embrace them or not, using flattering lighting, outfits, poses, and camera angles, I can highlight the things you find most beautiful about yourself and minimize what you’d rather keep hidden.

What should I wear?

There are three general rules for anything that you pick out to wear.
All articles of clothing should fit you well and not having any tags that show, make you feel confident, and allow for your beautiful personality to shine through. Some of my favorite clothing options to shoot are bodysuits, crop tops, boy shorts, stockings, and anything that shows a bit of personality.

How should I prepare for my session?

-Increase your water intake. Try to drink extra water all the way leading up to your shoot. Not only is it good for your body, but your skin will also look great.
-Stay out of the sun! Sunburns and tan lines usually don’t look great in photos.
-Do not get a spray tan!!! You will look orange when photographed.
-Try on your outfits and lingerie to make sure they fit properly. Remove all tags and labels.

What should I do about my hair and makeup?

Professional hair and makeup are provided complimentary with each boudoir session. I’ve partnered up with Hustle and Blow Dry Bar here in Savannah so that you’ll look amazing in your photos! Even if you know how to do your own hair and makeup, relax and take the day off. Jess and her team do an amazing job! Let them pamper you so you can relax and not stress out before your shoot.
